BCMA scanning of Controlled Substances

Posted by HWS Clinical Ops on Jan 15, 2019 4:21:45 PM

Welcome to 2019! I wanted to share a very helpful educational reference received from the Far-West Division. The education reviews scanning multiple doses of controlled substances and ensuring the second dose is properly scanned. If missed the verification, administration, and documentation are effected. Please comment below with questions. Thank you each for your dedication to patient safety.

Order Source: Z and W

Posted by HWS Clinical Ops on Dec 11, 2018 5:36:39 PM

The "z" and "w" order source in Meditech should never be used when entering an order. When either one of those sources is used, the order never goes to the physician to be electronically signed. This is particularly important for any Meditech controlled substance activity. Please comment below with questions.

Pain Medication Administration

Posted by HWS Clinical Ops on Nov 15, 2018 11:38:44 AM

As a reminder, please make sure you are administering pain medication per physician order. For example: Patient Smith reported pain level of 7. The physician order was Norco 2 Tablets PO Q4hours PRN for pain level 7-10 and Norco 1 tablet PO Q 4hours PRN for pain level 4-6. The correct administration for patient Smith would be Norco 2 Tablets PO Q4hours PRN for pain level 7-10. This information is included in the order on eMAR, please make sure you are reviewing prior to pain medication administration. Please comment with additional questions. Thank you each for all you do!

Pain Assessment and Reassessment is required on each patient prior to pain medication administration and after pain medication administration. Reassessment should be completed 30 minutes after IV/IM medication administered and 1 hour after PO medication administered. Included are Meditech screen shots of the pain assessment and reassessment. Please contact your Regional Director of Clinical Operations with questions.

Health Information Exchange (HIE)

Posted by HWS Clinical Ops on Oct 18, 2018 1:40:08 PM

One of the many reasons to love Meditech....Health Information Exchange allows you to view patient information outside of your market from all HCA facilities and employed doctors offices. They are currently working on being able to view information from non-HCA. This is very helpful in day to day continuity of patinet care but most recently in the hurricaines when patients are transfered to different facilities.

Each facility choses the path, examples desktop icon, link in magic key menu etc. Please verify with your facility how to access. Included is an informational resource.
