Education: Order Entry

Posted by HWS Clinical Ops on Apr 4, 2022 4:15:32 PM

Attention RN’s:

We need your help to decrease the number of orders with the wrong order source and being placed under the wrong Provider. In addition, Pharmacy has been seeing a large number of medication orders placed under “Written” order source. They will not process the order unless they are faxed the paper order, as written source does not que for a provider signature in Meditech.

  • The Order Source you choose determines if the provider must electronically sign the order.  Insurance Companies frequently refuse to pay for tests or procedures if proper signatures aren’t present. This can also be considered practicing outside your scope.
  • Who you place orders under (provider) can affect rounding lists.
  • 3 Rights for Placing Orders: Order Source, Provider and Patient

Please review attached education and escalate additional questions to the charge nurse.

Thank you for your attention to this important educational opportunity.

We appreciate all you do for patient care!

Education: Order Acknowledgement

Posted by HWS Clinical Ops on Feb 22, 2022 11:14:34 AM

New Order acknowledgement should occur throughout the shift upon MD entry to include implementation of new orders.

Additionally end of shift chart checks should occur to ensure accuracy and completion of orders.

New orders/implementations should be reported to oncoming nurse at Bedside Shift Report.

All orders can be viewed in Meditech from the review patient orders screen or order history in clinical review.
