Dear nursing colleagues,

Critical components of the HCA Healthcare nursing strategy is the development of extraordinary nursing care at every level and the creation of an unrivaled work environment for nurses to succeed and thrive. In an effort to execute on these strategies, we are pleased to announce that the work to deploy the Patient Safety Attendant model across the Enterprise.

The PSA model is a best practice framework that when implemented, provides strong support to front-line nurses. Additionally, the model encourages the safety of the patient by ensuring appropriate use of PSAs.

The goal of this program is to equip nurses with support in a way that promotes high-quality care by providing strong front-line support for the HCA Healthcare nursing workforce.

What is a Patient Safety Attendant (PSA)?

· A safety attendant trained to monitor at risk patients for safety.

· Accountable for patient safety either one – to – one or virtually.

· Provides support to the nurses and ensures patients are consistently safe from harm.

· Readily available to support front-line nurses.

PSAs will receive training and development during the onboarding process, which will prepare them for their new roles and responsibilities in the safe monitoring of patients.

We look forward to creating a nursing environment that provides even stronger support to our nursing staff. We thank you for all the wonderful care you provide to our patients and your commitment to excellence.
