Health History: Updated PCP Notification Process

The PCP notification process is now captured as part of the admissions process. Admissions will document if the patient wishes for the PCP to be notified. An automated process will generate the patient's request for the PCP to be notified.

Floating:Medical City Dallas and Medical City Heart and Spine

Medical City Dallas and Medical City Heart and Spine located in North Texas Divison are sister facilities and share staff. Accepting and booking a shift at either MC Heart and Spine and MC Dallas will make you responsible for floating to either facility if needed. You will be notified during confirmation if you will be floated. Any additional questions can be answered thru the Dallas Staffing office at 972-556-6470.

EBCD: Suicide Prevention Updates

The Meditech screens for suicide prevention have changed to the Columbia Rating Scale. All patients are assessed on admission for signs or symptoms that would indicate that the patient might be at risk for suicide. The patient's history, psychosocial assessment, and suicide risk screen contribute to the initial assessment.

Please review the provided suicide algorithm document to ensure compliance for Suicide prevention assessment and documentation.

Inpatient Surgical Readiness

Aventura Hospital in East Florida has released a new and revised inpatient pre-procedure checklist to ensure the surgical patients are ready at the time they are called to the OR. The checklist must be complete and attached to the chart.

Restraint Education-Mountain Division: St. Mark's

St. Mark’s recently underwent a survey and some opportunities for restraint management/charting were identified. As I am sure you are aware restraints are considered a high-risk procedure/event and are almost always scrutinized by regulatory bodies. Attached you will find a tip sheet as well as an audit sheet. Please ensure you are managing and charting appropriately. If you have any questions at all please seek assistance for your on shift direct supervisor.

Please note St. Mark's utilizes EPIC as EHR system and restraint documentation.

Implementation of Patient Safety Attendant Role

Dear nursing colleagues,

Critical components of the HCA Healthcare nursing strategy is the development of extraordinary nursing care at every level and the creation of an unrivaled work environment for nurses to succeed and thrive. In an effort to execute on these strategies, we are pleased to announce that the work to deploy the Patient Safety Attendant model across the Enterprise.

The PSA model is a best practice framework that when implemented, provides strong support to front-line nurses. Additionally, the model encourages the safety of the patient by ensuring appropriate use of PSAs.

The goal of this program is to equip nurses with support in a way that promotes high-quality care by providing strong front-line support for the HCA Healthcare nursing workforce.

What is a Patient Safety Attendant (PSA)?

· A safety attendant trained to monitor at risk patients for safety.

· Accountable for patient safety either one – to – one or virtually.

· Provides support to the nurses and ensures patients are consistently safe from harm.

· Readily available to support front-line nurses.

PSAs will receive training and development during the onboarding process, which will prepare them for their new roles and responsibilities in the safe monitoring of patients.
