Bar Code Medication Scanning Education

Educational Reminder: Please ensure the patient and the medication are being scanned 100% of the time prior to medication administration.  Failure to comply with this process jeopordizes patient safety and patient care. 

File Time Variance is a discrepancy of 30 plus minutes between the File Time and Administration Time. The goal for number of File Time Variances is Zero.  Included is an education reference on File Time Variance.

Medication Reconciliation Education

All healthcare providers review meds on admission, transfer, discharge, and PRN.

NEW:Meditech Suicide Assessment Screens-Pilot San Antonio

New Suicide screens accessible from either Safety/Risk/Regulatory or BH: Suicide/Homicide Screen interventions

On page 3 of the suicide screen is a new calculated risk and the option to document a Detailed Risk Assessment

Detailed Risk Assessment can be accessed through the Suicide screen or from a stand-alone intervention

Please note this is currently being Piloted in San Antonio and changes across the enterprise are expected after the first of the year.

North Florida: Capital Regional-New SCD Pumps

New SCD Pumps will be distributed to patient care areas over the next couple of weeks at Capital Regional Medical Center. Capital will be holding "Nursing Staff Practice Change" in-services. Please speak with charge nurse about attending a session when working at Capital Regional as an educational opportunity to learn how to use them. Attached is an educational document on the new SCD Pump for review and reference.

BCMA: Fentanyl Daily Patch Check Reminder

Please see attached education regarding patch documentation. The Continental Division will be adding a daily patch check reminder for fentanyl patches in BCMA. The RN will be expected to verify the patch is on the patient and document the verification. The planned Go-Live in the Continental Division is 11/26/2019.

Opioid Education: Patient Discharge

As a friendly reminder: If a patient discharges with a prescription for an opioid,  the patient must receive education on:

  • Pain Management  
  • Safe Disposal of Opioids
  • Safe Use of Opioids.

Please note this education must be provided and documented for home and facility/rehab discharges.

The Education is located in Care Notes, please ask Charge Nurse if you are unsure where to locate this information.
