The education reviews scanning multiple doses of controlled substances and ensuring the second dose is properly scanned. If missed the verification, administration, and documentation are effected. Controlled Substance Education

On behalf of the clinical operations team, I would like to wish each of you a wonderful holiday season. We appreciate all that you do and dedication to patient care.

All patients receive VTE prophylaxis: mechanical or pharmacological within the first 24 hours of admission unless contraindicated. Please make sure your documentation accurately reflects the requirement or contraindication. Should VTE prophylaxis or contraindication not be included in the admission orders, please speak with the physician. I have attached an educational reminder for review and reference.

The "z" and "w" order source in Meditech should never be used when entering an order. When either one of those sources is used, the order never goes to the physician to be electronically signed. This is particularly important for any Meditech controlled substance activity. Please comment below with questions.

As a reminder, please make sure you are administering pain medication per physician order. For example: Patient Smith reported pain level of 7. The physician order was Norco 2 Tablets PO Q4hours PRN for pain level 7-10 and Norco 1 tablet PO Q 4hours PRN for pain level 4-6. The correct administration for patient Smith would be Norco 2 Tablets PO Q4hours PRN for pain level 7-10. This information is included in the order on eMAR, please make sure you are reviewing prior to pain medication administration. Please comment with additional questions. Provided is education on recepting patients in the ED. It is imperative to appropriately recept a patient utilizing their social security number and creating an MPI search. Failure to follow the correct process leads to duplication of accounts and is a patient safety concern. Please comment below with any additional questions. Oak Hill Hospital in West Florida has implemented a C-Diff Algorithm to reduce the incidences of C-Diff. The algorithm will assist in timely and appropriate collection and should be sent to lab with all specimens. Please note, specimens should look like Type 7 on the Bristol Stool Chart and collected no later than Day 3, Day 1 being day of admission. C-Diff is considered hospital onset if specimen is collected on or after Day 4 of hospitalization. Please review provided education handouts and comment with questions.
